And we've landed...Hello out there! Can anyone hear me? I am now broadcasting from South Bay, where we have finally arrived. It has been a long few weeks, let me tell you. Moving four times in 7 months is not something I would like to repeat. But the packing got done (barely) in time. We were able to hire a fantastic mover, so my mind is much more at ease about the state of our earthly possessions. We offloaded a ton of stuff, which felt good to be rid of and know that other people will enjoy those things now. (thanks to everyone who came to pick stuff up) The trash was hauled out (massive thanks to Tony and Shelly for that) and the car was packed, all a bit later than planned. Amids all that we had lots of lovely send offs and gifts, so thanks to all the knit night ladies, the Knit Picky staff, and too many friends to list here. We sat around Chattanooga for a few days while the car was thoroughly checked over. The drive commenced on friday. It took us 5 days to get to South Bay; we stopped in Little Rock, Amarillo, Flagstaff, and Bakersfield. We've done almost the exact same route before, so the drive was a bit more boring, and very very long. However, I am happy to report that Butthead and I both survived with our partnership intact. The last bit of the drive on a state route up California was gorgeous, a lovely ending. I now sit in a temporary apartment, which we will use as home base until we find an apartment for real. There's still so much to do, changing car titles and license plates and driver's licenses. And I'm in the process of changing my name, which is more complicated than I had anticipated. The point of this rambling post was to say I'm happy to be here in the Bay Area and ready to get actually settled. More posts to come. |
